Create Victoria: Arts and Culture Master Plan Wins Award of Excellence-Cultural Planning at 2018 Creative Cities Summit

Nordicity is proud to announce that our Create Victoria: Arts and Culture Master Plan has won the Award of Excellence- Cultural Planning from the Creative Cities Network of Canada (CCNC) at the 2018 Creative Cities Summit in Mississauga, Ontario.

The Award of Excellence – Cultural Planning recognizes a Canadian municipality that has developed, adopted, and implemented a culture plan with a process that demonstrates outstanding visionary leadership and best practices in cultural planning. Key eligibility criteria includes embodying a collaborative processes of public engagement which champions accessibility, diversity and inclusivity; strategic integration with local government services; and, contribution to the vitality of the community through integration of all aspects of sustainability (cultural, social, economic and environmental).

Led by Patricia Huntsman Culture + Communications, in partnership with Nordicity, Create Victoria: Arts and Culture Master Plan aims to guide the City of Victoria in its role in supporting the arts and culture sector over the next five years. Nordicity’s team co-designed the stakeholder survey and engagement tools and led the analysis of the economic impact of Victoria’s creative industries on both the local and provincial and economy. Nordicity also developed an inventory of City-owned and community-run arts and culture facilities and assets based on previous cultural mapping.

Carly Frey, Nordicity’s project lead for Create Victoria, accepted the award alongside Patricia Huntsman (Patricia Huntsman Culture + Communication) and Nichola Reddington (City of Victoria’s Senior Cultural Planner).
